This is the second in my Celtic Festival Series of instruments - Imbolc. It's a short scale guitar-cittern in Euro spruce/Cuban Mahogany, with Rupola lacewood bindings and bridge, ebony headstock veneer, and mimi Gotoh tuners. The neck is adjustable and is mahogany/lacewood/mahogany with a London Plane (Sycamore to you) heel. Finish is light handrubbed nitro on the body and as of now the neck is just bare wood. Scale length is 605mm (23.8") and it has unison pairs in 0.011", 0.012", 0.016", 0.029"w and 0.039"w. There are as many cittern tunings as there are players but I use GDADE. I bet you're all wondering what it sounds like. Well here's a sound clip of a work in progress. Imbolc ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great stuff Dave! Made me want to snatch up a jug of cider and go roll in the grassy meadows with a fair maiden....then again that may have just been the oysters I had for entr'e. None the less she looks and sounds marvellous, but is no less than what we have come to expect from your workshop, excellence. Well Done, I'm off for that roll now ![]() Cheers Kim |

Kim, Happy rolling. Glad you liked the tune - I can see your folk roots by your name "larkim the morning" ![]() Russell, There are very few coats on there at present, I'm going to build them up over a number of weeks/months. Mine's a pretty basic technique - spray from a can and then rub back with 0000 wire wool. It gives the look and feel of the Lowden/McIlroy finish. |

Great job Dave, Euro/Cuban has got to be the Rolls Royce of wood combinations and with your build quality don't you just know it's gonna sing. I love the LP in the heel to add a little interest, and the subtle binding is a joy. I much prefer the 'guitar' body shape than the more traditional tear drop. As another English 'Folkie', can you help me. When I sing and play I find it difficult to keep both hands on the guitar and still have my finger in my ear, how do you manage? ![]() Colin |
Its great to see a "Guitar builder" Doing some other type of instrument.. I dont have the guts yet to expand my horizons
Lance, Hey, you do 12 strings. I just do 8 and 10 strings. Now venturing into banjos like John K or lutes/violas like Colin - that's expanding!
As another English 'Folkie', can you help me. I've just re-vamped my website including sound samples but that won't be up and running until the weekend. Are you sure you aren't confusing me with the other Dave White? The Other Dave White |

No Dave, it's you. When you click on the link to your song, it opens up a new window with quick time to play. At the top, in the address bar is the path of the song. If you go to the end of the address and backspace from imbolc.mp3 to sounds/ than you can see the other songs you have on your site. Click on them to hear. Love it. |
